The role of JAR1 in insect feeding response
The Discovery Progression
The northern blot experiment described on previous pages is typical of many molecular genetics experiments. The results did not show a difference between the genetic mutant and the normal condition. However the results did eliminate a possible explanation and thus directed the scientists to the next hypothesis and the next experiment. That is exactly what the Staswick team did and continues to do as they uncover the role of jasmonic acid in signaling plant response.
